Flight Delay from Gatwick in Mar.2013

Hi,
My Lunchtime flight to belfast International was delayed by 4.Hours.(Due to Snow?) There was NO notice as to why on the Flight Gate Board.Given the 'Glasgow'flight( On the same Latitude? as Belfast and with Snow Problems) was ONLY delayed by 35mins. I was Puzzled.So i went to the Infomation Desk for 'Easyjet'.
The First contact at the 'Easyjet' Info desk.-The Guy explained the Plane was at Hand BUT waiting for permission(From Belafst Airport) to land at Belfast..The NEXT attendant,a Woman(2hrs later).Explained the First Explanation was wrong! The Plane was at Belfast Airport Loaded And waiting For the De-Icer to carry out ITS job on the Plane.The Plane eventually landed? at Gatwick around 15:25.We (Me And the other Passengers) took off around 16:10.
Given the Conflicting excuses for this delay.I was wondering how i stand or Compensation?. I got to a point where i was going to cancel my Flight in favour of an alternativ form of Transport(Train and Ferry? or even a Coach & ferry?).Of whch would have cost me A Lot more & Time would have been by a day late..
