O/S Daily Saturday 06 April 2013 This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning all:j:j

Chilly here this morning with a light frost and some mist!

Not a good night for me.
bed 10:20 fast off as normal, Woke just after 2:00am.
I was awake then for nearly two hours before I fell off to sleep in my chair. woke back up about 20 mins ago. Decided then that there was no way I would get back off to sleep So Iv made coffee.

No real plans for today, The kids are having a sleep over at my Mums and Dads caravan out In the sticks, I get its chilly there this morning.
Not sorted a time for them to come back yet,

My wife has said she won'ts to pop out to some shop to take something back and to get something else. But I don't think I.m going to go with her,

If its warm enough there are a few small Jobs that I would like to get done In the garden.

I'm worried about outside. There are things that need to be done. And also these my Veg seeds that need to be started off and then got into the ground.
But With not knowing when i will be going into hospital, I'm at a loss. Do I plant seed and then have the plants go to waste because In not here to look after them and plant then out when ready ? Or do I do nothing and not have any home grown veg?

Then there are the chicks, I need to get there small outdoor pen ready for them to go into, So they can grow on. That way if I'm In hospital when its time for them to come out from under the heat All my wife will have to do is put them in there. But I need to move it all I place first, by the Large chicken pen that I have, so all chicken will be able to see each other, This will help them to get on when I mix them all in the large pen at a later date.

Ya see it all needs planning and sorting, but With not knowing its a right pain. Its not only not knowing when I'm going In. I Also don't know how long I will be In. Or how well and mobile I will be when I come out and how long any of this will last for.

No meal plans for today as yet.

Yesterday after shopping I got two bread puddings backed In the over. So my cake is all sorted for the weekend.

I'm not sure but I think this week might be the last week that I go to aldi on my own. It killed me yesterday, It has been getting harder to do it on my own. But as a male, Iv plodded on and tried to ignore the fact. Need to think it though a bit more I think,

Well all I hope that you all have a great day.

    Enjoy :j:j

    Cheep,Cheep :j:j

  • Good morning halight and to those who cross/follow,
Quite a sharp frost here this morning. The sun is shining now so maybe we will be in for a better day.
halight, you are really struggling at the moment. You have alot going on and it is that thought of not knowing that's not helping. I hope your sleep pattern improves. If it was me, i would plant the seeds. The money you will save by growing your own veg will far outweigh the cost of the seeds. Well the seeds i buy are just the cheap ones but they seem to do just as well as the more expensive ones. There is always a chance that you can tend to them. On the other hand you have to do what will make you feel comfortable. Hope you have a better day.
jools, hope your ds's mri goes ok today.
My friends funeral was lovely, a very nice service. It was an open coffin. I just couldn't bring myself to say goodbye to her, i just wanted to remember her how i last saw her. Her Mum was distraught, the family had to pull her away from the coffin. It was just heartbreaking. The sun came out when it was time for the funeral which was just so fitting. Jo was a ray of sunshine x
Normal household chores for me today. Chicken curry for tea.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Cold and icy again but bright sunshine looks like it's on the way.

Halight - plant those seeds and show your wife and the girls how to look after them.

Good day yesterday but overspent so need to look at the budget again for this month and cut down accordingly. There is now plenty of food in the freezer so it should not be a problem.

Am off to a car boot sale this morning so better dash.

Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep warm, well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning all,
I haven't been on here since Monday so appologies for not being upto date. We've had DGD2 here all week, she didn't want to go home last night and sobbed all the way there, it breaks my heart to see her so upset. She was pleading to stay, DD is a wonderful mum but can't give her as much one to one time as we can.
Y/day DGD and I made some meatballs in tomato sauce, some cakes and gingerbread men for her to take home.
We've done lots of painting, drawing and reading, she is on stage six of the Biff and Chip books, she had her 4th b/day last month but has a reading age of 6. Right enough boasting.
I need to pop out for f&v later and drop some stuff at the cs.
Lots of ironing to do and the kitchen and bathrooms need a swish.
Dinner tonight will be duck breasts roast peppers, leeks and courgettes with new pots.
Hope you all have a good w/end.

I have some seeds planted, I did a few the other day,
    Beetroot.
    Cherry Tom's (Climbing)
    Pepper (Patio )

I have some cherry Tom's plug plants for hanging baskets on order.

I have spuds to put In. Might do this on Monday with the kids,

Runner bean seed's But Its still a bit early for them, I like to put mine In at the end of April.

Broad beans I normally have In by now.

Dwarf french beans, I normally start them off Inside. not even thought about doing them yet. Maybe at the end of next week. I might start them off.

I have cabbage seeds to plant too. These are going to be grown for the chickens to eat.

Kale seed for Us and the Chicken's

I have other seed too, Just need to work out what I would like to plant this year out of them.

I try carrot's every year. But no matter what I do I never seem to do any good with them.

Its all a bit of a mess really and all up In the air.

The weather has just made it worse .

We should be hitting double numbers now with the daytime temp. But we have been nowhere near that yet.
They have said from this weekend It should start to slowly get warmer

    Morning everyone

Beautiful blue sky, still blustery but no frost here this morning.

Have had a bit of lie-in but can't stay in bed for too long once I'm awake.

Dinner last night was an easy meal of breaded chicken pieces, chips, beans/veg for the menfolk and I had mushroom omlette and salad, HM trifle for those that wanted some. I also remembered to get the prawns out of the freezer to defrost for tonight - tonight's meal is prawn salad followed by either the remaining trifle or I can make a sponge pud and custard - wanted something quick and easy today as we have quite a list of jobs to get done and wasn't sure how long we would have to prep and cook meals etc.

Got the food shopping etc done yesterday - again spent more than I wanted to - but did buy a couple of bits on offer, toilet rolls were on special so bought 2 packs, 3 bird roast price had been reduced so bought one of those etc, so although spent more now have a bit more in stock, I'm trying my theory of just going shopping one a week - it seems as soon as I go near a SM for just 1 item I spent £20+ so am trying to get everything when I do a food shop and then not go back. We'll see how this works out.

My car needed a couple of jobs doing to get through the MOT, not major work as although it's 10 years old hasn't done very many miles and is a great little car, it was parts suffering from wear and tear - bit like us getting old! Anyway all sorted MOT done, so both cars now done, just have insurance renewals in May for both and Tax for mine - expensive time of the year - but DH's car tax isn't until October so it's split from everything else.

DH now in the bath and getting stroppy because I've said we need to get on with the jobs that we've been putting off - and not go riding round and then it doesn't get done, like the past 2 weekends! He's now sulking, I'm going to get a shower etc, he moans that we haven't got stuff done and the house is a pit - looks like today's going great if he's going to be in a mood all day - deep joy!

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Blooming cold here again, when is spring coming ?? got OH work clothes in the wm, so will hang those on the line in a while, good breeze today.

I picked up the cows liver today, its honestly mahosive , the butcher chopped it for me, but I will have to spend some time today making it into treats for little dog.

I think OH and the neighbour are going to fix the fence, its been down for a few weeks, but the weather has been so bad they have been unable to do it, hopefully today.

Dropping dd at work this morning, will come home and have a quick tidy round then I need to go and buy a mop head (exciting eh??) and some loo roll.

Will then come home and take little dog out for her run, before collecting dd and then making a chicken curry.

Jools good luck for your ds today xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone,

Halight You are under a lot of stress at the moment. Don't worry about the garden, Monty Don was saying on Gardener's World last night that everything was 3 weeks behind this year.

TTFTM Good luck at the car boot.

Molly Hugs for you and your son.

Hilstep and LW Hugs for you.

Jools Glad that the day at work was ok.

I am so excited. DD1 and I are going to the theatre this lunchtime to see Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty. We both love the ballet and this one is meant to be particularly good.

For the rest of the day it is more tidying and decluttering. I am determined to stop living in a tip!

    Have a lovely day everyone.:):)

    Morning all,

It's bright and frosty, Halight no what you mean, dh is chomping at the bit to get outside. All our seeds are shooting up on the windowsill. Come on where is the warm weather
I'm planning a clean through this morning and then want to try a little walk. I'm finding it very frustrating not being able to get out and walk the miles we normally do. So going to try and hop to the post office and then the local shop instead of driving, we shall see. Dh may have to give me a donkey ride back!
Our friends funeral is on Friday. Both his in laws have managed to fly out for the funeral. My lad doesn't know whether he is coming or going with all the arrangements. I think they are going to just have a few flowers and then donations to the Heart Foundation. I understand he didn't want a big fuss.
FS I feel for you yesterday, I really would be able to stand an open coffin, its too hard to bear:(
I want to do some baking this afternoon, dh has requested Twinks Hobnobs with chocolate on and I want to make a ginger cake and possibly a lemon drizzle as I forgot to put sugar in the one I made last week:eek: just shows I'm distracted at the moment.
Tonight we plan to watch the new Swedish drama and I'm hoping to start doing some cross stitch which I've never done before.
I'm currently also trying to save for my new glasses, which haven't arrived yet but they will and are expensive. I've ordered two pairs of varifocals one with a tint for the summer if it ever arrives.
Hoping for a nice quiet weekend, the kids are occupied elsewhere so should be a nice relaxing one. Hoping to drive to Bents tomorrow, my favourite place in the world and have a mooch, it's far too expensive to buy anything:rotfl:
Have a good weekend Julie x

    Morning all
    Hugs to Molly & Bargainbird.
Frosty here again today, lets hope it gets brighter later.
We are off to visit the outlaws later, 15 of us all together, I've made brownies as my contribution, I usually make Nigella's recipe, but to make enough takes a dozen eggs, so I've made the BeRo ones, they've turned out great & only took 4 eggs.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
