Just a quick word re moses basket - If you or oh are tall it might not be worth getting one. Our second son has outgrown the moses basket already and he's only 7 weeks. And he wasn't big at birth- 7lb 14oz. So he is now in a travel cot.
  • Co-sleeping/bedsharing is possible but not everyone's cup of tea :-) You have to do what suits your family. I have a 9 month old and a 2 year old.

Just to reiterate what the posters have said above if you do decide to bedshare... absolutely no smoking, no alcohol, no drugs (incl prescription drugs which could make you drowsy) and you aren't supposed to bedshare when you are unusually tired, if you are overweight. Baby should also be kept well away from pillow and duvet.

I actually pushed my son's cot up against the bed as it was the same height and it gave me the closeness of sharing my bed but without me worrying about the safety concerns - I could still reach and touch him through the bars but he had his own space.

You won't need a baby monitor in a 1 bedroom flat.

Buy only the clothes you need and when they are outgrown sell them and buy the next size up.

I always keep nappies, wipes and toiletries in a spare kitchen cupboard.

You don't need all the fancy gadgets. A swing or a bouncer are handy and a few handheld/chewy toys. It's the only thing baby will be interested in for at least a few months!

  • Thank you for all your helpful comments. A few points really.

    1. I cannot co-sleep as i have a sleep disorder which means i rock back and forth and head bang in my sleep and this could injure the baby. I am a single parent so don't have to worry about a partner not wanting to share the bed with the baby but like i said i wont due to my sleep disorder.

    2. I have damp in my bedroom which limits where i can put my furniture. I have to sleep on the other side of the room (and the baby will) as it effects my asthma.

    3. The space saving cot looks like a good idea. Do you think it would do a child over one tho as the council wont consider moving me til baby is one years old.

    4. I think I will opt for under cot storage and tall chest of draws. Also got a spare cupboard in the kitchen for nappies and other baby paraphernalia.

    5. The smallest pram i have seen is one which is literally just a car seat on a stand. This could be folded and placed in the bathroom when im not using it.

Thanks once again for all your comments :)

I've got a very tall one year old (she's in 18-24 month clothes) and she can just about fit in one - it's not roomy for her now, and she managed to wake herself up doing cot-olympics, but she was sleeping in it for daytime naps (we'd replaced it with a big cot bed in her room but then my pelvis went and I couldn't manage carrying her up the stairs on my own so we put it in the lounge for during the day to nap in) up until about a month ago - so when she was 11 months old, 91st centile for height and in 12-18 month clothes she could definitely fit.
