Porting number problems - orange
Options
My current contract has come to an end and orange weren't willing to offer a decent deal.
However, phones4u had a good on orange so I've taken out a new contract with orange.
However, orange won't let me transfer my old number which is very annoying.
I've been told I can port away from orange, and then back but orange say I have to have used the PAYG sim for at least 3 months.
Which network will let me switch to them, and back to orange ASAP?
Thanks

Can my mobile provider refuse to give me a PAC?Which network will let me switch to them, and back to orange ASAP?0 -
Phones4u tried to flog me a new Orange contract today when they phoned about an upgrade. I asked if I could take my old number and the guys said "yeah, no problem, just talk to Orange yourself and they will sort it"
I decided against it as I had found a better deal with Dialaphone online whilst I was talking to the Phones4u guy and thank goodness I did.0 -
The PAC has no restriction. The issue is the network are doing a deal for NEW customers only, not upgraders. They are entitled to do this, and no cause for complaint. Even if you found a network to port to, Orange could still block the port in as being a circumvention of their requirement to be a new customer.
You would be unlikely to lose your number, but they could simply block the transfer for a set period to discourage people who try to twist the system the established - it's their ball (network) to do with as they please.0 -
If this is true, this is definitely against OFCOM regulations:
Can my mobile provider refuse to give me a PAC?
Moving from Orange PAYG to PAYM does not involve a PAC as you are staying on the same network so the PAC rule does not apply.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
Ahhhh. That's so annoying.
How would orange know how long the numbers been ported for though?
The only problem I can see, is for example if Tmobile (the company I'm transferring out from) have a problem?0 -

It s not without the bounds of credibility that your contract profile will show (within the narrative) your entire history with the network, your CS interactions and your porting and migration requests.
Further, their IT systems may already be clever enough to note inbound ports and reject the number as breaching their rules on Upgrading.0 -
It might have something to do with the fact networks are free to set their own policies with regard to what and how customers interact with them. Upgraders and new customers have invariably been treated differently - I first came across it in 1985, but I can appreciate if it is a new concept to you.
As for your requiring a link to a networks individual policies, I suggest you contact the relevant network(s) directly.0
