i was jsut asking the question that is all. i was living with parents at the time and as silly as it is they didnt have house insurance. i lost a lot of goods a very expensive watch etc wasnt happy at the time with parents for not paying the 10 pound a month or whatever it was is to have it. if i known i would of payed the insurance myself. i was surprised they wouldnt replace someone broke into the house to me thats theft. i had insurance on it through them that covered theft aswell.

It's your responsibility to ensure the goods are secured, that means doors and windows closed and all locks used. Read the terms and conditions of your insurance policy. It's no different to being pickpocketed when you leave you purse or wallet on display instead of a zipped handbag or inside pocket.

Oftentimes mature adults who don't have contents insurance are struggling financially but too proud to say, don't be too mad at your parents.

If it is an actual Insurance policy and not one of Currys swerves that are not actual Insurance.

Then the Ombudsman would probably rule in the OP's favour as the act of opening the window is deemed as being using force depending on the exact wording of any security requirements

They would also expect any onnerous security requirements to be pointed out to the purchaser at point of sale which is unlikely with Currys staff.

This is assuming it's an Insurance Policy rather than one of currys service plans
