I prefer to have the curtains open to let in as much light as possible. The husbeast shuts the curtains the second we have to turn on an indoor light in the evening in case someone sees in - like there's a queue of people outside waiting to have a good gawp :)

That said, the sitting room window is right on the street and the one time we took the nets down in the evening (while decorating) we ended up with a crazy, wild-eyed Eastern European guy banging on the window, pointing at the bearded dragon tank and yelling 'I LIKE YOUR BLIZZARDS'...

I thought I had wrote the first bit :rotfl:

Plus people assume you're still in bed. Which if you're still in bed at noon makes you !!!!less/unemployed/a lazy sod. Or so I've been told by some of my nearest and dearest when still lounging in bed at lunchtime on my days off. It's the Hyacinth Bouquet thing - what will the neighbours think.

I agree with this :rotfl: sorry

That one's stuck, I'm afraid, just can't bring myself to do it. After years of indoctrination. I can feel my eyes going funny just at the thought.

I only do at the cinema

I have been keeping the curtains shut during the coldest days, because it helps to keep the heat in, and we do have double glazing.
Sometimes in the Summer we have to close the front curtains because you can't see the TV screen. We also watch films and champions league football in the dark, because it cuts out any distractions or unwanted shadows, and if you turn the sound up, it is like being at a live match or the cinema:o

When we moved to a town house recently, I decided that curtains for our bedroom could wait, as it was on the third floor, no one could look in as it was too high. The houses behind our house are on a hill and so our bedroom is opposite their lounges! Got some curtains very quickly!

I remember the excitement as a child, of being allowed to close the curtains to watch a film with a friend, like it was the cinema, and we in our childish awe nodded and agreed, it was JUST like the cinema.

We only have curtains in the spare room, which are open apart from in the evening. Our blinds around the rest of the house are always closed, as if anyone looked through the kitchen window you can see straight through into the living room and almost see all of it (And we have had people doing this, I am very particular about my privacy).

And our bedroom blinds have been ahem 'edited' by OH as we have odd shaped windows and we daren't touch them as they have had a habit of falling down, so they stay closed :)

The man is a buffoon, happy to jump on any bandwagon no matter how distasteful to further his own ends. I heard his comments on the Philpotts yesterday and was disgusted at how he turned such a tragedy to his own ends. I am sure it did him no favours though as he was as transparent as a window without curtains.

    Thread back on track!!

  • I have curtains open until its dark. I live on a quiet street but that aside I cant stand not being able to look outside and let the natural light in, mentally I dont think its good to have them closed all the time.

My mum and OH mum have them shut almost all the time as they are paranoid about people looking in...maybe its an age thing :rotfl:

George Osborne is a twit. I close my curtains/blinds when its hot (to keep the sun out), when its cold (to keep the heat in).

We arent on benefits. In fact hubby never even signs on when he is out of work.

I can't bear houses that are dark and gloomy - MIL lives in a house that is so gloomy she has to have the light on in the living room all the time.

I open the curtains as soon as I get up and close them once I put the lights on in the evening.

I walk my dog morning, lunchtime and late afternoon/evening every day and there are a lot of houses near me that never have their curtains open. I do find it odd and wonder why. The houses are all the same and if the front curtains are closed it does make it pretty gloomy.

I can understand more in the summer if the sun shines through the window but in the winter?
