Advice on transferring credit cards to same firm

Hi there, is there a golden rule that says you should not seek a new credit card with the same provider as your current one?
to summary - I have a card with Virgin and I am paying high interest, I have found a card also with Virgin with 20months no int. I want to apply for it but can I transfer funds from one virgin card to another? Please advise.
