Does anyone know if I can port my number away from a 3 contract but keep the 3 contract going i.e. use the original 3 number or get a new one assigned?

3 customer services said that once I port, the contract will be cancelled. Just want to double check this is always the case or if there is some work around to take my number but keep the contract.

Thanks.

Yes, I've done it - but you need to speak to someone in the UK - as the offshore centre are prone to misinform. I arranged to port out my old number on a PAC, and for them to immediately allocate a stock number to keep the contract active.

You do need to re register for My Three with the new number, but apart from that it is fairly painless.

Sweet. I've never spoken to anyone in UK. Any tips for how to do that?

Still got 8 months on my contract but realised I prob need to go for an unlimited package instead. My mum's contract is up, so if I can pull this off it will save me getting a new one for her. Much appreciated.

I found early morning in the UK is best, 0800 or so for some reason - perhaps that's when the sub-continent has its lunch break! :)
