No I got the money back very easily, it was Vanquis credit card in my case (credit card for paupers lol). No evidence was requested, only a form they sent me to fill in. Obviously there may be more details requested for a larger transaction.

Paypal is very much at your own risk regardless of the outcome of this, the idea of spending thousands there is alien to me!

i hope you will kindly answer these:

q1) did you first open a dispute on paypal and paypal refused to refund you and closed the dispute in favour of the seller.is that when you decided to do a chargeback?

q2) also did they refuse to refund you because they claimed you bought a non physical item?

q3) did you use a card linked to a bank e.g a debit card, or did you use a credit card?

from my understanding you get more protection if its credit card.

Where did you contact the "seller" from and do you have a verified physical address for him?

I very much doubt that a chargeback will work for the reason stated in SnowTiger's post earlier. You have in effect paid PayPal for a service (money transfer) and they have provided this service. If your bank do a chargeback then PayPal will put your account in debit and chase you for the money using debt collectors.

Maybe report it to the Police?

I didn't think a chargeback worked when you were using a third party payment service such as Paypal. i.e. Paypal would claim that they carried out your instructions (transferring money) and refuse the chargeback.

You'll have to let us know if it actually works or not.

You have to wait an amount of time (42 days I think) until Paypals own chargeback policy lapses then you can do a chargeback through your card.

You can still action a chargeback against Paypal but it will possibly be rejected as they are the third party in the transaction. They have provided the service they were asked to do.

Plus they have already disputed the transaction with the seller and this has failed. If the OP has proof of what they bought they should send this to their card issuer when asking them to start a dispute.

You should speak to your card issuer for advice.
