So sorry to hear of the sad loss of your little boy. :( Our son was born at 21 weeks and we opted to pay for him to be buried in the baby cemetary near where we live. The funeral costs were greatly reduced but I still had to pay for the plot which cost over £300.

Its unfair but costs vary greatly depending on where you live. Also, in some areas, the age of the baby affects how much financial help you can receive.

So sorry for your loss xx

I lost my little boy at 29 weeks a few years ago, and the funeral was arranged through co-operative and it was free for a child's funeral hth x

I'm so sorry for your loss.

If you had a cremation, you wouldn't have to pay for a plot and could scatter the ashes somewhere special to you. Is that an option?

  • I am so sorry for your loss, we lost our first daughter last year at 26 weeks and nothing anyone can say or do will make it any easier.

Sands have been a fantastic organisation and I thoroughly recommend you use their resources in the weeks and months ahead.

we have been quoted £600+ for a single plot and £700+ for a family plot. could I ask what sort of plot you got free?

Single plot buried in the childrens section of the grave yard. They have chosen a very quiet area as well which affords parents privacy from the rest of the cemetary

I had thought about a cremation but they told me there might not be any ashes x

A few local authorities are now moving away from cremations and going to liquid nitrogen to dispose of remains as it is cheaper and more enviromentally friendly. If your local authority offer this there would be ashes. Basically with this form of disposal they immerse the body in liquid nitrogen which freezes it and then they grind the remains up the same as they do when cremated.

Sorry it is so graphic but I couldnt think of a better way to explain the process

    Hi

Sorry I did not reply before. We did not pay for anything with the co-op. We did not have a plot as our little boy was cremated and the ashes were spread in their memorial garden.

If you are having trouble finding information you could also try BLISS, they have a large amount of information on their website.

Again I am very sorry for your loss and if you ever feel the need to talk please send me a message.

I see. I remember with my miscarriages I was told that, but I lost my babies earlier so didn't realise the same would apply later on.

How important is it to have ashes? Because you could have a cremation service, then plant a tree or bush or something instead of scattering ashes.

I know it's not quite the same, I'm just trying to think of ideas.

It's such a horrible thing to have to deal with and I am so sorry :A
