HSBC Basic Account / Debit Card

Got some good news for those people with a HSBC basic account. This account now comes with a visa debit card so no more restrictions to just using cash machines.
I rang up to upgrade my account to a full account a couple of days ago and they told me I can now get a debit card (non-contactless) on my basic account. I decided it wasn't worth running another credit check for the full account just yet.
Hope this helps a few people
HSBC has been good to me for the last 9 months - not had any issues with them

Hi i just applied for this account but dont have card or anything yet - what kind of debit card is it? Does it have chip and pin?0

Yep, mine is a visa debit. Not too sure if its an offline card or not though0

Well I just spoke to HSBC and they said I can use it anywhere there is a chip and pin terminal, even on flights as I'm flying to Italy next week. My card starts with 4659 which i think is offline as opposed to 4658 which is offline cards0

If you have a basic account the card will no doubt be an online card, which means it will have to dial home to the bank to find out if you have sufficient funds in your account to authorise the transaction.
So if your on an airplane and it can't dial home to authorise the transaction it will automatically be declined.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

That may be so, if you can develop a liking to their hideous keypad, without which you can't even log in.0
