Ryanair response

Just had a letter from Ryanair saying that my claim had been declined relating to a flight from Edinburgh to Malaga on 16/02/2013 - delayed over 8 hours because of a technical problem with the plane - which they claim was "extraordinary circumstances" thus no compensation could be paid under the EU261 ruling. I was of the opinion that if a plane has a technical problem and is delayed then I can claim. Ryanairs reply seems to insinuate that a delay as described above does not merit any form of compensation. Interested to hear if anyone has taken Ryanair further on this excuse - and with what success!
