Another trick that is played (not here I might add) is ramming any thread with countless positive posts.

The Talkgold forum discussion thread on UInvest is a case in point; For those that don't know, UInvest is a HYIP - i.e. your 'investment' pays previous investors, until the owners of the HYIP pull the plug with all of the money. The UInvest thread is now 139 pages long, full of posts saying 'Thanks UInvest! Paid on time!' (of course you are.......for now).

Any discussion on the nature of the HYIP is swamped by positives, so casual readers do not see the issues.

I think that we should give some credit to MSE for editing the thread and not removing it entirely. There have been quite a few threads relating to Capital Alternatives that have existed for only a few weeks before being removed. They appear to like to threaten legal action and it seems that it generally works. The only people who stand up to them seem to be newspaper sites who have the clout to tell the CA lawyers to go swivel.

I have always thought it odd that Capital Alternatives chose to link its business with the word 'scam' so that when you type in the three words "Capital Alternatives scam" you get page after page of blogs / posts that have been written by themselves and their supporters. I think it's a clever ploy because most people get fed up after 4 or 5 pages of Google containing nothing of any real content. Occasionally a genuine blog manages to get through and that is when the legal letters come out.

So what can be said about Capital Alternatives ?

    1. The FSA has an active investigation into them (MSE please don't delete - contact the FSA (now the FCA) and ask them yourself).

    2. African Land Ltd claims to have sacked them and the linked company Capital Secretarial Ltd due to financial irregularities. The actual text of the letter reads "You are aware that African Land Limited has broken off all commercial ties with Capital Alternatives Limited and their associated companies which include Capital Secretarial Limited and Crest Commodities Limited. Please note that this decision was made to protect the interests of investors in African Land following a number of financial irregularities found in our dealings with Capital Secretarial and Capital Alternatives." I can send the full letter to MSE if needed.

Perhaps that is why the FSA is interested. The only director of Capital Secretarial Ltd is Marcia Hargous and she comes under FSA regulation. She is also described as the legal counsel for Capital Alternatives.

Personally I take that announcement from African Land with a pinch of salt. African Land have a lot of questions to answer themselves if the posts on the Daily Mirror blog site about them are to be believed.
  • Hey guys I am new on here and appreciate all the insight. I'm not sure what to make of it all as I am looking at the African land investment, and everyone here says don't do it or its not real.. Just wondering if anyone has any evidence or something in writing or someone who has been ripped by this company? That would make my decision a lot easier. Thanks

Why would you want to risk your money on anything that may be suspect and has no protection?

Do you really need to find someone online that says they have been ripped off to make a decision for you?

Do you still have a decision to make? Really?

Even when people know something sounds too good to be true, they so much want it to be that they will still believe it without proof to the contrary.

these guys have been calling me for the past couple of years.

Agricultural Land, Mining, Gold, Diamonds and Wine can all be profitable for those that know what they are doing.

but learning what you are doing, rather than trusting Capital Alternatives, or other similar 'brokers' would be my approach.
  • Where can you get hold of a transcript of the hearing?
