I am giving my laptop to someone so I went to system restore but I noted that one can cancel this.
I want my address book etc. permanently deleted!
    Many thanks Browntoa.

do your restore point to your Clean restore point, make sure the laptop boots up ok and then turn off restore, which deletes the points, then turn it back on agin and do a new restore point

yes, make sure after you do the restore to your earliest point that all the data you want deleted is no longer there before you turn off system restore

to finish off if happy then use this bit of software

    http://www.acelogix.com/download.html

    Ace Utilities v2.42

has a secure deletion bit which will clean the hard disk
