Getting a gas supply to a village

Hello, we live in a small village (about 150 houses) about 1 mile from the nearest gas mains. We are all on either LPG or oil, which, as you can imagine is quite expensive. Has anybody on here ever had experience of getting a gas supply installed, and who would you contact? Thanks.

Is the mains high or low pressure? It's one thing having a local supply, it's another having it working at domestic pressure.
