Feltham seems to have a very bad reputation (yobs, crimes, bad schools etc). Is this really true? Can anyone here throw some light on what it is actually like living in Feltham especially on Boundaries Road? Also is there a lot of noise from planes which is disturbing?

I have a mate who lives there - it's pretty awful.
The planes are the least of your worries. Town centre is asbo central, lots of petty crime and anti social families/youths.0 -
I don't live there, but visit regularly for work. It's a dump, and a soul-free area at that....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Hi. My friend moved there last year, but a bit further south, other side of Hanworth Park. Whilst being well aware of its problems, he's more than happy there. Bought a cheap Victorian fixer-upper for under £220k, 5 min bike ride from his work in Hampton, in and out of central London in just over 30 mins, and close to big green spaces like Bushy Park for his dogs. I've visited him there twice, first time aircraft noise was pretty intense, but not so bad with good double glazing. Second time, couldn't hear a thing as planes were taking off/landing in a different direction that day. I also used to live directly under the flight path in Isleworth and it's amazing how quickly you get used to it. Though I wasn't sorry to see the back of Concorde, admittedly
On the other hand, he doesn't have family so schools were not an issue for him, nor does he spend hardly any time in the town centre or local shops or pubs - and no denying that these are a bit rough.0 -
I've only heard of it for one reason, that probably covers it though.0

Depends on your circumstances and what you're comparing it to. There are probably some property bargains to be had there, but it doesn't feel like the kind of area that's likely to get gentrified anytime soon.
For the past 15 years I've played five-a-side football in Feltham once a week, not far from Boundaries Road. One week a bunch of chavs smashed the rear screen of my colleague's car and stole all of our valuables while we were playing our game. On the other hand, my mate's wallet was handed in to the Police by a local resident, so there must be some kind souls there...
I live about three miles away and its true what Moonraker71 says - the plane noise does blend into the background after a while, and gets even quieter when the planes switch to the alternate flightpath.0 -

I worked there for several years and I wouldn't buy there. There are a lot of gang types hanging around the high street and police incident boards seemed to constantly festoon the high street. Travelling on the buses is certainly an experience. There are worse areas in London, but that is not much of a recommendation... Have you looked at the surrounding towns?0

So you wouldn't move to Wandsworth,
or the Isle of Wight
or Dartmoor
for the same (similar) reason
