flight delay thailand

Options
iv just got back from thailand, on my outward journey from heathrow my flight was delayed an hour or so,i had a connecting flight transfer at abu dhabi to bangkok which was delayed by 5+ hours. (not sure if original delay at heathrow caused extended delay at abu dhabi) do the compensation rules apply to flight transfers outside the eu even though i flew out from heathrow?

was it one flight number from LHR to BKK or 2 separate flight numbers?

Some suggest that if it is a through booking (one ticket) you should be due compensation, I doubt the airline will agree though

If it was an EU airline you would be covered. I suspect you will be looking at a delayed flight on a non-EU airline, departing from a non-EU airport, so nothing due

For "some suggest" read "God has decreed". You'll find the Grand Chamber's judgment on connecting flights HERE.

" ... compensation is payable, on the basis of that article, to a passenger on directly connecting flights who has been delayed at departure for a period below the limits specified in Article 6 of that regulation, but has arrived at his final destination at least three hours later than the scheduled arrival time, given that the compensation in question is not conditional upon there having been a delay at departure and, thus, upon the conditions set out in Article 6 having been met."

would this equally apply for non-EU carriers?

I think this example may be comparable if the OP had missed their connection but they didn't. They were in good time for their next flight and this is the one that had the delay, which appears to be a non-EU airline departing from non-EU airport....don't know if this has been tested in the courts but I would expect the airline to argue that the short delay from the EU had no impact on the ultimate delay on arrival
