Talkmobile +44 charges

I am on Talk mobile contract - but they have charged me for a orange mobile number just because it had 44 in front of it - even though sender and receiver were in same city , never mind country! Talk mobile say it lists as a Channel island call
Talk mobile refunded me the charges and i deleted number -only to find charges for it because i forgot i still had it on my call divert (only 40p but that is not the point) this was alarming:eek: as i do tend to miss a lot of calls and luckily callers hung up before call divert
Other friends have called this orange mobile number and have never been billed
Talk mobile say avoid using 44 - but i called Ofcom and they were simply not aware of charges applicable simply because of a 44 in front

In my experience, call forwards etc. do not come out of bundled calls.

    It's not because of +44.
It's because the number you called is allegedly not one of "07 numbers allocated to UK mobile network operations". Demand a refund if they cannot show where their tariff says that this particular 07 number is not included in the allowance (like, say, at EE/Orange/T-mobile: Non-inclusive 07 mobile numbers customers after 1st February 2012 >)

    Maybe, maybe not!
In my experience, some calls to (coincidentally an ex Orange) number were charged, some not. We were only charged for calls when the number appeared prefixed with +44. It turns out that diverted calls use a prefix of +44 but it was the fact that they were diverted that led to the charge, nothing to do with the +44.
Initially Talk Mobile tried to suggest the number was being treated as non-UK but couldn't then explain why sometimes we were charged and sometimes not.
Could this match the OP's situation?

I would guess that diverted calls are always charged.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Agreed. My point is that diverts show with +44, so if it's a number you also call normally it can be confusing why it is sometimes charged.

What are the four digits following the 07? That is: 07####

It's ridiculous to charge for diversion to a number that would be inclusive as an ordinary call. The tariff should be exactly the same.

I see what MikeWhite is saying, but most networks do not do so, and if that's the only thing happening here (rather than a non standard network) it ought to be appealed against.

When I thought I could see what was going on with our account I specifically asked Talk Mobile if diverts came from included minutes.

    I said:

Hi, on SIM only plans, does call diversion come out of included minutes? I.e. if the call is forwarded on to another number. Thanks Mike

    They said:

Unfortunately, Talkmobile does not support this service; you will be charged 31p per minute if you were to set your phone up for call diverting.
