If the compauter's been off for a few hours, is the date/time correct in bottom right hand corner when you switch back on?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Uninstall and reinstall Chrome for starters. You have to install the homepage yourself. I use Google.co.uk. Go to start up in Chrome settings. Highlight/: Open a specific page or set of pages..then type in what search Engine you require..simples.0

It has been working normal for 2 days and now this morning the home icon has gone.0

Re-installed it after uninstall. Working fine yesterday and this morning. This afternoon I lost the home button again.0

One thing I notice, and this happens whenever it feels like it, I get a message saying "your preferences for chrome cannot be read" and then it's back to no home icon etc. Frustrating.0

Quick search on that brings up http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/GKO3H7NovJM%5B1-25-false%5D
Mostly Linux users but this is a windows user claiming a fix...
May need to adjust details depending on your opsys release and of course it may well not work at all but it looks like an easy thing to try.I my case the file "preferences" has no permissions at all. Buy just in case, I adjusted all files in the the User Data folder: [drive]:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data
I've solved the problem doing this:
1.[drive]:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome
2.Right click on "User Data" folder
3.Go to "Security" tab
4.Click on "Advanced" button
5.Chek the last option "Replace permission entries..."
6.OK (this will take a few minutes)
7.OK
The problem should be fixed.
Google Chrome version (5.0.375.38):
Operating System: Windows XP SP 2
Error Message: Your preferences can not be read. Some features may be unavailable and changes to preferences won't be saved0
