Hi brummiebabe, when you start shopping around for the work you're doing, have a look on topcashback before you buy, as quite a few DIY type places are on there - at the moment, it's 7% cash back on bathstore and 6% off Topps tiles for example.

We've just finished the bulk of our renovations - rewire, new heating, new bathrooms, new kitchen and a bit of moving walls. It's all worth it in the end!

Thanks Dot...hadn't thought about that but will certainly look into it!

I too have just discovered how to do this for nationwide, was sending cheques in till last month. was a bit nervous but checked today and payments went in so feeling relieved. so i can now send money instantly... quite excited.

Moved house then major renovation so know how you feel, 18 months on and finally feel in control of our finances though still need bigger emergency fund.

    Good luck on your journey.

    I'm with Nationwide too.....;)

I have no emergency fund to speak of....have only recently really started living within our means....so am now looking at planning ahead. I love spending though:rotfl:

I'm with the n@tionwide as well ... I find them handy to be with, can only overpay by £500 a month on each mortgage but that all I can manage anyway and can't even manage that on my second mortgage ... I like their online system it's good to keep a wee eye in how much you owe, i find it makes it easier to find out my daily interest also, just check it at 11.59pm and then again at 12am take the higher number away from the lower and that's my daily interest lol

Good luck with the renovations , we can't wait to do our house but have decided it will get done nice we own it and not before, it'll just need to last another few years

Because we have a mortgage plus 2 advances, as borrowed for building works in 2 bits we have 3 accounts so we can open 3x 500 which is very useful at times. Thinking as we get near the end and down to 1 mortgage I will reduce the term officially which will increase payment and therefore I can pay exactly what I want to, think it costs 20 quid to do so.

I'd love to have enough spare money to overpay by those kind of amounts....but it's not going to happen unless we get a windfall from somewhere! :rotfl::rotfl:Good luck with your plans x

Woohoo!! Well done brummiebabe. You are off the MFW starting blocks. :T

I also find that there are lots of people on here who can afford to OP loads more than I can, but it doesn't matter. Any OP that you can make will help, and if you keep making them then they will add up.

Have been so inspired by I Want A Baby's diary & achievements that have been having a think about my own goals.....

To OP my mortgage by a minimum of £20 per month

To save £300 for wedding outfits etc by end of June 2013 - my Aunt is getting married, me & kids need outfits, DH could do with a new shirt/tie.

Holiday fund to be £800 by August 2013 - currently have £178

DS1 has an overnight school trip £40 left to pay - currently have £20

To save £1000 by Christmas - presents etc. My Tesco club card points go into the Christmas club and I get them in November so this may cover food shopping

Emergency fund of £1000 by end of 2013

These seem huge amounts....but I am going to try!!!
