Satelite broadband

we live in an area with poor broadband speed 1.5 - 3 MBs and without cable or fibre now and in foreseeable future.

one of my neighbours mentioned and asked if I knew anything about satellite, which I don't.

has anyone had any experience with this type of service? I'd be grateful for any info about reliability, speed and cost from anyone is currently using the service.

I've done some searching before posting here and found some providers but not heard of any of them before.

I looked into it a while ago, very expensive.
I get 0.9 mbs!! i leaned to live with it.

It's reasonably reliable, but limited bandwidth and high install costs usually. Only a last choice option for most people. 3Mbps is not that bad, only a bit below the UK average.

Buzby

Mobile BB is considerably cheaper. Satellite services still require a backhaul of some description (they are invariably one way) so hoy are effectively paying twice - fast (ish) download via Sat, and slow uplink via phone modem or ADSL.
