Debt collection company claiming for SW Water Bill which isn't mine?

Hi,

I received a letter today from Buchanan Clark & Wells (BCW) claiming I owe SW Water £1200 for an address I moved out of 4 years ago.

The bill runs from the 01/04/2009 - 31/03/2013.

I moved away from the Address in March/April 2009 to a completely different county and since have moved a further 2-3 times since 2010 onwards.

BCW are claiming I must provide proof that I moved out of the address specified, regardless to the fact that they found my name/address through a credit reference agency, which also states all my address from 2009 to date. I told them this and that they should look at my credit record, but they still want me to send them a contract for my new address etc.

Where do I stand? Do THEY not need to prove I owe this money?

Also is it sensible I contact SW Water and demand they remove this debt as I've not dealt with them in over 4+ years.

Any advice would be good, since BCW are not being helpful.
