Not the same thing then is it as surely you were paid low in return for free training?

because its told employers what to pay where as before it was supply and demand and the whole point of it being brought in was to minimize the number not on a 'living wage' where in fact its created more.

I believe Germany don't have a NMW and they seem to be doing just fine.

Do away with it now it will price many Brits right out of the market in favor of Eastern Europeans with a 5/6 way house share who can afford it.

If I could walk to work Id work for £3 an hour - I joke not. Having said that any employer would think I was joking when I was on £14 before

I went home with £50 per week back in 97/98 and had to give £30 of that for house keep.

Lucky you. In 1995/6 I was earning £2.75 an hour while I did my A levels. I wasn't living at home, so had rent of £40 to pay from my £55-65 a week.

The only people in favour of abolishing or significantly lowering minimum wages are big business owners because it allows more money for their own pockets. It's basically just greed. The end result of no minimum wage is lower skilled workers being shafted and forced to work for peanuts which isn't right to me.

I had to laugh at the if it affects the economy line as well. The only thing messing up the economy even more at the moment is the awful policies of this government.

When I was job hunting backing in the early 90's the wage I was regularily being offered was £3.80 per hour, I for one am glad the NMW came in as it does guarantee a wage above the rubbish wages which were offered years ago. To cut or abolish the NMW would be foolish in my opinion.
