ok, never heard of them. Why would I be entitled to them on NMW earning £11,365pa for a 35 hour week job and now on JSA I only get £71 and nothing else. Very odd indeed.

It is intended to ensure you have a long term liveable income, as opposed to a short term stop gap. I guess they didn't take into account times when the economy went to pot and people were on JSA long term :o

So why is NMW not liveable when JSA is meant to be? LOL

I don't think either are intended to be in the long term, JSA certainly isn't. The theory behind the levels for both is very idealistic - assumes no debts, and that people will progress onto higher levels of pay.

JSA may not be long term but its meant to the be the amount of £ you need to LIVE on - to get a 'top up' on NMW is an insult to everyone who get nothing now.

NMW shouldn't have been brought in to start.

It is the amount the law says you need to live on - this is nothing more than a notional figure designed long ago. It is not the same as a liveable income.

    Why would that be?

Then people would be working for 40p an hour or something equally as ridiculous.

I went home with £50 per week back in 97/98 and had to give £30 of that for house keep.

    Was that a training scheme?
