Mud does stick, but anyone who takes the time to research which car to buy normally see past it and go for whatever is the best for their needs. Skoda & Ford are both in great positions at the moment and both have great cars. More fool those that dont even bother looking because of preconceptions.

we spend too much time listening to fattening middle aged blokes who know nothing of modern cars.

with current road tax and fuel prices, the days of the old favourites are numbered me thinks.

Yeah! I used to have a 1972 3 ltr Capri, never yet had a Ford I've not thoroughly enjoyed. Inevitably sworn at them a few times too ... but always enjoyed them. My current R reg Mondeo is no exception.

I'll stick with my (allegedly carp) Mondeo as well - as good a car as most, and very MSE if you buy at 1 or 2 years old. Also impressed with the Focus and Citroen C4 (holiday hires) - probably just getting harder to make a really awful car.

Just hope that the badge snobs don't wake up and smell the coffee - might cut down on the bargains...

Anyone out there run a Vauxhall Omega? I've very very nearly bought a couple of times but went for a hatch instead of a saloon - drove very well and not much over half price for a year old.

I don't think you have anything to worry about there. I'm sure Fifth Gear did something on the fact that last year, for the 1st time ever, the BMW 3-series outsold the Mondeo and it seems like that will be a future trend ... ie. it seems there are even MORE badge snobs out there now and it does figure as I see more new beemers on the road than Fords these days!! How times change.

My Skoda Fabia TDi is the most economical car I have ever owned, despite having a gutsy 100 bhp.

Last month it developed a fault, which I have not yet got round to fixing. The heater fan only works on the maximum speed.

That's the only fault Ive had. Not bad for 140,000 miles! (bought it at 115000 3 years old)

I used to love Fords cos old Cortinas and Sierras were so cheap to buy, but times have moved on.

My first car was an old Ford Escort and it was an okay car given the age and milage. I bought a new skoda fabia 3 years ago and it is a WONDERFUL car. It's a 1.2 engine but because the car is so light, it has all the power I need and seems to run on air. (I never seem to have to fill the tank.) The boot is not a bad size too, bigger than it looks.

I did a lot of research before I bought the car because I wanted it to last about 10 years. Skoda came out top for customer satisfaction, economy, safety and reliability for my budget. Ideally, I'd like to be able to squeeze another child in the back as it only fits 2 child car seats, though it can fit 3 adults in the back. But otherwise, I love it. Not a single problem so far. I've only got 10,000 miles on the clock though.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
