Ford/Skoda: Mud sticks

Had an interesting chat with some of the guys at work today. The two cars mentioned were the Skoda and the Ford. Back in the 80s, both produced truly dreadful cars ... one was the butt of all jokes and the other were known for making awful cars but still sellign them by the bucket load.
The jist of the chat was that even though both Ford & Skoda now produce excellent and often class leading cars, the mud has stuck. Some will not consider either due to the past and other will think twice before considering one. I think Fords now are excellent but the Focus is the only one I'd seriosuly consider.
What do others think here?

I think Skodas are great and have been for a few years. Ford still suck though.0

Not sure I want to get into this too much but....... My OH has a skoda as a company car and he had no choice, considering he has numerous rs turbos and a couple of xr2s he does like the skoda and he's done 63,000 from new and never had any probs, and he says its quite gutsy too. I would never drive anything other than a ford and preferably an older one too, Ive had quite a few different makes of cars since I passed and due to problems or just their general drive I love my fords and thats that! Also because they're so common when they do F*** up you get cheap and easy to find parts.0

The theory works the other way round too. Look at Mercedes who normally make great cars but then came the A class ... sold by the bucket load but it wasnt exactly a Merc standard car.If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0
