sterling insurance policy

hi everyone just after a little advice, after watching martins show about checking your bank statments last week to see where things are going i decided to check mine..(i know its stupid of me not to have checked before)
i noticed a standing order for the same time each month with sterling ins group on it so thought id gave my bank(coop) a ring to find out what it was.
They could not seem to work out what it was for so gave me the number of the company to ring myself. I rung the company and queried it and they said its actually a accident and injury policy taking out with the coop bank in 2004!!! Obviously they could not tell me much about it, so i rang the bank back&explained about it..
He said he couldnt find much about the policy on my records and asked if it was for travel insurance i might have bought, which i had not. I said that i could not remember taking out the policy but that if i had, i have had no information from the company about the benefits or what i am entitled to with the policy.
He ended the conversation by saying he was going to speak to a manager as he to thought it strange about the policy.

Is there any way i can try and get some money back from this as i know i can not remember getting this policy but obviously did back in 2004 but the fact that i'v had no information from the company about it and the bank did not even know how and why it was taken out.

Many Thanks in advance.

You were correct to finally check your statements. Obviously this is insurance you have neglected to cancel. I doubt you can make any complaint about this, it's up to you not the insurance company to decide whether you needed this policy.
Check your statements more regularly is all I can advise.
  • Thanks,I know its my fault just can't understand why theyv never sent me any information out about it as iv had it since 04..

They are under no obligation to send you anything unless the price changes. Would you have actually read anything they sent? By your own admission, you haven't checked your statement since 2004!:p

I think we already established that cancellation was the most you can expect. It's your own responsibility to cancel general insurance you don't need.
PPI is only refunded because it was widely mis-sold. Your insurance clearly wasn't I'm afraid.
