Yes there are cheaper or even free alternatives but you have to be in range of their Wi-Fi hotspot. Presumably as you are at friends home you are using someone's BT Fon hotspot. It also cheaper to buy a package from 90 minutes upwards. Or use a mobile as above or a 3G SIM card and dongle.0

If you are doing this regularly then I'd be considering buying one. They can be purchased for around £50...or about 4.5 hours of access at 18p/min. You could just get a 3G dongle which can be picked up for about £10 but I find the phone much easier to use. You can put it on the window sill to get the best 3G signal. I've also broken a few dongles in my time.no i was logging on under bt as i was in a wifi area? It was 18p per minute i dont have a smartphone so no good there?
You can use an Ovivo SIM to get some free access each month.:footie:

I have a Fon router which gives me access to the Fon network (BT is the UK partner). There are no ongoing costs - but you rarely find a Fon hotspot where you need one!0
