BA snow cancellation (KUL-LHR-MAN) compensation rejected?!

Options
hi all

I have been reading information here in forum but doesn't seem to have answer to my situation. Hope you guys can shed some light, thanks!

We were on return journey from KUL-LHR. We arrived in Heathrow on time and expected a 2 hour transit from LHR-MAN. We all had BA through ticket.

However due to snow disruption we waited nearly 5 hours delay for our connecting flight to Manchester. It was subsequently cancelled.

When asked at BA counter, the lady told us to keep rebooking online until we got a place, on first come first serve basis! Alternatively we can make our arrangement back to MAN. We opted for latter as we can't be waiting in airport any longer after 14 hours flight + 5 hour delay, dragging two tired young kids.

I have sent letter asking for compensation under EU rules in Feb but today received letter saying the flight was cancelled due to adverse weather condition so no compensation!

I am furious, they didn't even offer to reimburse our taxi fare which they promised at the time.

What should I do next?!

Advice appreciated. Thanks.
Carol

There's no compensation due so forget about that and focus on getting a refund for the taxi. Write them a letter with a brief explanation of what happened and a receipt for the taxi (if you send the original then take a photocopy beforehand). Just be factual and polite. Include your bank details (bank name, branch, sort code and account number). Send it to:

Did they refund you the flight to Manchester?

If they pay for the taxi there'd be no refund due for the cancelled flight.

hi thanks all for the response, gratefully appreciated.

In original letter I asked for refund for the cancelled flight (to cover taxi cost) but there has been no direct response for that yet. I guess I will write to them and ask again.

If the flight was cancelled, they surely cannot deny you that? Unless they classified you as a no-show perhaps - if you didn't check in. Not sure where you stand legally in that instance, to be honest. I think you right to a full refund may only kick in once you've checked in and the flight has been delayed for 5 hours.

out of interest - how will the airline work out the amount to be refunded for the missing leg
With the weird world of airline pricing it is possible that MAN-KUL may actually be cheaper than LHR-KUL (even though the legs from LHR are the same) so if the airline recalculates the fare without the cancelled leg they may come up with a fare higher than paid!

    Hi all

In replying to earlier post, I do have the 'check-in' boarding tickets. BA has replied to me two days ago asking me to contact travel agent in regards to ticket refunds!! and that would be last minute.com. However I do not understand why that would be necessary?? Last minute.com would have to liase with BA anyhow, so wouldn't it be easier and faster to refund me directly? I am not sure Lastminute.com would be of any help? anyone has advise on this or point me to the right direction would be great.

Caz3121- I am curious too. I would have thought BA should refund me the same fare from LHR-MAN at business class on the same time, i.e. peak morning fare! :p

off topic - if one experienced flight delayed on work travels, would the compensation goes to company or the individual suffering the delay? Work pays for the ticket. maybe I should post another thread on this.

    Cheers
