This is fantastic, thanks to everyone who has posted.

For me I haven't quite made the decision yet and I think its really important to go into it with your eyes wide open and know the cons and pros of what you plan to do. Im already doing a DMP and so I feel I know what the good things are and what the baddies are to. Personally I dont know anyone who has gone BR so its great to hear peoples experiences. Claire1976 - thanks for your reply, in all honesty I was only expecting the down side but you ve certainly made me realise that its not all bad! And ts_aly2000 thanks for the info about cars on HP, although it doesnt affect me (I do have a car but its paid for [please let them let me keep it!]) I'm sure a lot of people wouldnt know that but its the kind of thing that a lot of people going through BR would be pleased to find out about, its such a shame that happened to you, but as it was Lloyds it somehow doesnt surprise me (does anyone else find they re like a pack of pit bull terriers, I certainly have).

Please please keep on posting im finding this a real eye opener! x x

  • I was surprised that I never saw my name in the papers! I was told by the OR it would be in my local and a london one, I kept looking in the local, but never saw it. So, before the BR I was a bit worried about it,as I didn't really want some people to know. i wanted to make a choice about who i told. But, if it was in I never heard anything from anyone. It was a case of worrying about such a minor thing and it didn't happen anyway!

Wish I had known what Bankruptcy was, I'd have done it years ago! Never knew it was a possibility, or what it entailed before I contacted CCCs!!!

The important thing to remember is, it's a way to get out of debt and reclaim your life. Credit is thrown at everyone daily, who wouldn't want that sparkling new kitchen, or the latest car... when everyone else seems to have it? Isn't the majority of the UK population in debt? We didn't get there on our own! Buy now.. pay later.. pay in 3 years... huge savings etc etc.. except, 3 years down the line peoples circumstances may have changed. What do the bank do? Throw more money at people, getting them further into debt.

Thing is, those who don't face up to their debts lead very miserable lives and some people have even committed suicide because of it.

I would rather sleep at night than be so stressed I can't function properly or relax with my children.

If we could go bankrupt, we would.

It's not the end of the World. Who wants credit anyway? :D
  • I wish I had known that I would have to chase up all the companies to remove them from my credit file. Also that it would stop me gettign certain jobs. But I had no choice but to do it. On balance it's better having those hassles rather than not being able to face the door mat in the morning!

its pretty straight forward dither iv posted how to do it on our other site .After your discharge ......

You send off for your credit reports from experian and equifax see if they have updated them they should read settled /part settled the date being the date of discharge ,if this is not the case them send letter compleate with a photo copy of your discharge paperwork from the court and bingo they should change them.

I didn't know that you could be turned down for a job because you've been made bankrupt. Is this while undischarged or would this apply for the rest of your life?

I amazed that people aren't informed of this *before* bankruptcy. It used to be that if you were a practicing solicitor, a policeman, magistrate, MP (i.e. certain positions of public office) you couldn't keep your job and go bankrupt. Some of these e.g. the police have become more relaxed over their attitudes to bankruptcy, and you can now be an MP too. However, certain positions, including working with finance/banking, can mean you will not be considered for the role if the find out were/ are bankrupt. But to be frank, I can understand why.
