Hi I was wondering if anyone could point me towards a digital camera for my young daughter. She is only 6 but loves taking photos and movies (as we have discovered on my wifes phone) so I would like to get her a cheap camera. This would have to be a simple point and shoot, anythign above 1.3 MP would do (ie not a very low res). But apart from that I am open to suggestions.

My boy is 5 and although he loves digital , I reckon the best pictures he takes is with Olympus XA2. You can pick them up for under £10.00. They really do produce wonderful results, and the really really sensitive shutter button together with a relatively fast lens really does lend itself to good, foolproof pictures. It's a fixed lens so no zooming in and out (something my little one wants to do all the time with zoom lenses), has a great lens protector system and is all round a great little camera. Can you live with roll film. Using one of the cheap mail order firms that supply free roll with each set of prints is cheap enough. I have conditioned my boy to look forward to the prints arriving in the post.

I know it's not digital, but this camera really can take some amazing pictures. The lens is fantastic and will easily compete with the many of the more expensive digital point & shoots from todays world.
The original XA costs more money, and the other XA's are not that good. The XA2 is just simply a steal for around £10.00 and will be worth that amount in 10 years too.
If you want digital camera then really you should look at 3-5MP. The real problem my boy has is putting his fingures across built in flashes or lenses. The XA2 lens is detachable and to positioned on the left. Not it's strong point so I just detatch it.0

Cool, I may get this thanks have also seen the VIVITAR V3780S which is slightly better for £5 more as it has a proper sliding lens cover.asda also do a digital vivitar for about 30 quid. pretty good photos for the money.
As to the film camera, yes I expect it does take superb photos, my only concern is that she is a bit snap happy so we would end up with reels of film of very similar things. At least with a digital I can just keep the good ones and ditch the also-rans and would be cheaper than having to develop each film.
Thanks to everyone for the assistance0

Not so sure about the Vivitar cameras. Anyway, here are some more; http://www.amazon.co.uk/s?ie=UTF8&rh=n%3A564448%2Cp_4%3AVivitar&page=1
 There are some reviews there.
I would spend the extra to get one of the Fuji cameras; http://www.digicamreview.co.uk/fujifilm_finepix_a345_a350_review.htm0

It's a really nice camera and within your budget. You may well even be able to get the underwater housing for £200 all in.

This digital Polaroid camera isn't the best but I am sure it would be fine for a 6 year old - It comes with a photo printer for £40 from Jessops0

 What on earth........?
The camera I am suggesting for purchase costs £40 or less.
Remember, this is a camera for a child.

There was me thinking that Premier of Taiwan made Vivitar cameras these days.
Anyone can buy a brand name.
