Flight delay compensation

I travelled to Gran Canaria back in 2005 with Jet2.com from Leeds. Delayed 7.5 hours because they did not have a plane and had to wait for a plane to come in from Spain! Travelling with a 5 year old as well so delay was great fun - not. Unfortunately my Mum passed away while I was on holiday. Rang Jet2.com to be told it was a non refundable airline and they could not get me home before my arranged flight. I cannot remember the flight number just the date and approximate time of the flight, or when it should have taken off. How do I claim compensation for this delay.
