In any real sense, it's income. It's money, coming in.
You're right, and many who receive DLA use it on expenditure that is not solely disability related (myself included). The classic example is travel - unless it is for medical appts, surely everyone has this expense?0 -
its money designed to spent in a certain way, on certain things.
if you cant pay your electric bill because youve paid your mortgage, i wouldnt say ; you had the money for your electric bill but chose to pay your mortgage'
the DLA isnt meant to form part of disposable income as it is meant for a specific use.
pollycat.
we both know that i wasnt inferring that disabled people cannot work.
but this thread is disvussing benefit cuts, and the cuts are mostly ained at people on means tested benefit.
so yes .... compared to someone on JSA, those getting ESA are relatively 'better off'. but at the same time, their chances to better their situations are more limited0 -

i am unable to use public transport without help, ao if i go out alone, i need a taxi. that is an additional expense.
if i go on a bus i also have to pay for someone to accompnay me ... so that is an additional expense
my local swimming pool doesnt allow concessions ... so if i want to swim i have to pay for someone to accompany me0 -

Except that you don't have to show that it is indeed used for that purpose and can really use it for whatever the disabled wish to spend it on, which for a number of people is spent on things that they would spend additional income on if they were not disabled.0 -

I was referring to the basic costs of travel - if someone travels in a car they have to use petrol.
Lets not make this yet another thread about you, eh?0 -
.... and your once decent clothes have been qorn and washed so much that not even a tramp would want them! (sic)
employers would be biting each others hands off to employ someone that looks like a down and out wouldnt they?
Do you wear your interview clothes during a normal week then?
Don't know about you, but I have that sort of thing hanging in the wardrobe ready to go at a moments notice. The way you make it out Nannytone is as if no one has the one good suit hanging up ready for an interview/wedding/funeral. That you all need another handout to buy interview clothes.
I'm glad the Government have started this. More on the way one hopes.0 -
im not making it a thread about me. but as i can only say what my DLA is used for, then that is the example i need to give.
if you dont use your DLA for its intended purpose, i assume youre queuing up to hand it back?
thought not.
long term unemployed tend not to have 'best clothes' and other clothes. they just have clothes.
i have one 'best' outfit. ( paid for by my son for his wedding in 2002 and worn for special occasions since) it's not suitable for a job interview though.0 -
Your situation is very unfortunate and I sympathize but you shouldn't be living on £53 a week, have you had any advice on benefits? I am no expert but you should be looking at IS CA HB and loads of other stuff. I don't know how old your son is but there should be help for him as well. Good luck.
I am not having to live off £53 i just mentioned my situation to make people aware that being on benefits is the last thing i want, but what else should i do in my situation, I don't drink do drugs, go to nightclubs are have a big tv and the full sky package like the normal stereotype of someone on benefits, I am always looking for ways to start my own business but that requires money and time.
I started this thread as i thought it would be relevant to those on benefits, i didn't realise that the benefit board would be full of working people bashing those out of work, i wish i hadn't bothered.2013 Wins Kaspersky Internet security 2013, Acer iconia Tablet, Kindle fire HD0 -

This board tends not to be like that - although there are some who pop up with a bit of nastiness.
Mainly the board does what it says on the tin - provides advice for people with questions about benefits.
However, your post was not really relevant to the Benefits board as you were not seeking advice so it's being treated as if it were on DT board with people giving their opinions - instead of advice.0
