Ive had a Zanussi one for coming on 7 years now and never had a problem. A normal load dries in about 1.75 hours. I fid it convenient for it means can turn it on in morning before work or just before going to bed and all is done by morning. Wash and dry cycle takes 3.5 hours. Im sure mine was in the region of £400. as I bought it for my first house and money was tight as we were starting from sratch. Would have no hesitation in getting another.

I have a hotpoint 7kg wet 5kg dry. Everyone told me don't buy one they are useless but of course I went and bought one anyway
    lol

The washing maching part is really good.

The dryer part is terrible it takes a age to dry anything and while its drying it stinks so bad that when you do get the clothes out they need washing all over again I am very disapointed with it. I would just get a washer and a few clothes horses to dot about

I have an AEG washer dryer, bought after my 2 year old washing machine died. It's fabulous. Will do a full load, washed and dried, in 4 hours or less. It was about £550 a few months ago.

Had a hotpoint one that was over the £400 and it was abysmal. Washing machine part was ok, dryer was pathetic.

I've had 3, Bendix (brilliant, lasted 11 years) Zanussi (only got rid because had new kitchen installed) and the one i have now, Electrolux. The dryer will never work as efficiently as a stand alone dryer but i've never had any problems with any of mine. I tend not to use the dryer to dry clothes until they're bone dry, i take them out whilst they're still slightly damp and finish them off on an airer or on the radiators if they're on. Less ironing then !

If i had room, i'd buy an American washer and separate dryer, they're fantastic. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another washer/dryer but i wouldn't buy a cheap one. I wouldn't think you'll get a brilliant one for less than £400.

We used to have a washer dryer but hated it. The dryer was noisy and when it broke down we could use neither one. We now have a washing machine and a separate condenser tumble dryer (it doesn't need an outside vent).

  • I also got a Miele after a run of carppy Hotpoints. It is without doubt the best I've ever had! It was expensive but I reckon it's paid its way. I couldn't recommend any other brand. If it lasts as long as it should (15 years?) it will have cost me less than the spend on the at least 4 machines I'd bought in the previous 15 years :)

I think it depends on how you are going to use it. if you plan to use the dryer all the time, like you would a separate dryer I would say don't get one (especially if you are going for a cheap brand), the clothes take forever to dry and you can only dry with a half load.

I have one and I would buy another but I only use the dryer in an emergency I like the fact that if I do forget to wash something that is needed the next day I can go to bed knowing in the morning I will just need to iron go. Much less stressful than having to get the hairdryer out etc to dry an item of urgently needed clothing. Of course if you are super organised that this won't apply to you.

One other point my washer/dryer is the only thing in the house I purchased extended warranty for. I never get this as they are a waste of money but washer/dryers are notorious for going wrong so it may be worth considering.
