I store in fridge only if I know I will be eating it the next day - otherwise it goes in freezer. I know theoretically it should last longer, but I prefer to 'play safe'.
I wouldn't want to keep it more than a day either. I don't have it often usually a treat for DGS . I always order house curry for myself and split it into two and freeze one that night, To keep costs down I make my own rice. chips and prawn crackers just enough so theres no leftovers. The next time we have one I only order for DGS, he has sweet and sour chicken balls, get my curry out of freezer, make more rice , chips and crackers and its takeaway for a fiver.Slimming World at target0 -
Must admit, we had a Chinese takeaway last night but they did have 15% off though.
We did our own packet rice (59p from home bargains) which saved quite a lot, but didn't have any of these leftovers you talk aboutNow thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0 -
Agree with all the caveats about reheating rice. I think I'd be happy to eat everything else after 48hours (subject to usual sniff test) but make my own rice (&chips) fresh to have with it.0

Hi
I thought the issue with rice was if it was kept warm/at room temperature for too long ? If I have leftovers I put them inthe fridge ASAP and then make sure they're heated through properly.
Have to be honest I love leftovers

Wow, the majority of comments lean to the trash/bin.... I'm not going to knock anyones personal beliefs, just share my experiences or lack there-of. I have four children, one is "special needs." It's nearly impossible for my wife or I to sit down at dinner with the kids. We 6.9/7 have to eat once we get them all to sleep. I work a 6-5 p.m. job. I fall asleep on the couch with my dinner sitting front of me at least three times a week. I also have a drinking problem to alleviate aforementioned stress. My problems, not yours. I grew up eating fried chicken, pizza, soups the next day that was kept room temperature in the oven or counter top 24/hrs. Stock/soup pots don't fit in a refrigerator lol Refrigeration just changes the texture of some foods. With that said, I often eat food (restaurant, delivery, home made,) that sat out overnight, the next day or the day after. I never go past three days with meats unless it's a brined pork. I've never had food poisoning. Y'all can all call me a crazy southerner now lol, here in Georgia we were taught to waste not, want not. :beer:0

Totally with people on the rice - even the name of the bacteria B Cereus tells us to take it seriously :rotfl: Here's an article about the little varmit. https://www.livescience.com/65374-bacillus-cereus-fried-rice-syndrome.html Now of course an estimated 63,000 cases in the US per year indicates that it is not a 100% certainty, any more than not wearing a seat belt means you will be harmed in a car journey. But I for one would rather be safe, so if there is any rice left over it is cooled quickly straight after the meal, then eaten next day or put in the food recycle collection. Other left-overs I don't get so worried about, though they get the same treatment, including freezing. As for breaking wrist in 4 places, ouch! fortunately that is a less common consequence of chinese.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

We tend not to have leftovers (teenage boys...) but there is a house policy on rice which runs "if not eaten within an hour of delivery, bin."
(The chilli sauce decanted into a little single use pot, also binned, but that was after "research".)
The meat & vegetables (if any) are put into a clean dish, refrigerated & then microwaved Severely & eaten within 36 hours or so with fresh rice if wanted or noodles if son in a hurry.0
