United Airlines or British Airways?

Looking at booking flights to New York, does anyone have any experience of United Airlines or British Airways and have any recommendations? Price wise they are within a couple of quid of each other, just wondering which airline is potentially better service/facilities wise.

  • British airways is much better, but check its not a code share with American airlines. If its an AA flight, then it won't be much different to United.

The economy cabin (Coach) on United isn't a particularly nice experience - British Airways over United if the price is so close.
  • As above, BA are far better, but AA re just as pants as United, so check BA aren't selling an AA flight.

BA - in case there is issues with the return flight....we flew with United from Washington DC and flight was cancelled with little assistance offered (and no compensation to be paid!)

We've flown BA, Virgin and United to the US in the past couple of years. Only had good experiences, but have to say we were very pleased with the United flights to and from Newark last August, and didn't hesitate to book with them again for this summer.

BA = free booze onboard so should be a no-brainer ;)

I did wonder how soon someone would bring this complete non-issue into the equation.

seat pitch ? IFE ? safety records ? after sale service ? frequent flyer scheme ? luggage allowance ? time of flights ? connecting flights ?
Nope, to some folk, can I get p*ssed for free trumps all.

If you've had enough to drink then none of the above matter to you ;)

Seriously, though, on how many of those issues you have listed does United beat BA? On safety alone I'd always fly a non-US carrier (apart from Air France) as they are less likely to be blown up.
