Trouble is, they've been known to want a card check for existing payees as well as new ones.
"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis

When I did ring up the customer service person I spoke to said they'd had some issues getting card readers to customers and it's been taking up to fourteen days.

It's been well over that which is why I called them, I wonder if they have had so much demand for the account that their suppliers are having trouble keeping up with demand?

I think so, I'm six weeks in and still waiting for mine to turn up (both original one and re-order) if its not hear next week will be on the phone again. Last time I called they ended up agreeing for me to go into branch to set up some payees there so that I can send payments via the telephony service (as normally need to set up online first)

Maybe they ought to suspend the TV ads for a while so that the problem doesn't get worse.

Going into a branch isn't really an option for me as getting leave from work is getting leave from work is getting difficult at the moment due to our workload.

I'm off today but only because I booked it off back in January.

My folks had have their mortgage through Nationwide and I don't think they've been too chuffed with the CS on the very few times they've had to contact them.

I'll give it another couple of weeks and then I'll write to their head office in Swindon I think.

I pity any poor soul that switched to them as perhaps their only account, they could be in one hell of a mess by now.

I'm in the same position regarding the card reader. Was told the other day to order another if it doesn't arrive in 3 working days. Luckily my Co-op card reader works with Nationwide so I've been able to set up payees.

Had a classic today though. My Paypal account is now linked to my new Nationwide Flexdirect and they have already made two payments to Paypal. However, today I received an email from Paypal to say that they had used my back up credit card for a payment because Nationwide had refused a payment because of lack of funds. The payment was for £1.15 and there is over £3,500 in the Nationwide account. I'm waiting for a reply from Nationwide. I just hope this isn't indicative of things to come.

I don't think I'll be closing my Co-op account at the moment, as I may be using their switching service to move the Direct Debits back to them:)
