Private villa hire - not getting everything promised

Hiya,
Firstly, sorry if this is in the wrong place. Mods, please move if there is a better home.
Okay, so I just got back from a stay in a privately rented villa (booked directly with the owner).
The villa was advertised as having a hot tub. Which there was, only it wasn't working until the fifth night (of seven).
Having looked at the guest book, and speaking to the people who came to fix it, the tub in question had been broken for a couple of weeks, and has been a problem many times in the past.
Am I justified in asking for some of the portion of the cost back? The reason we chose this villa over others was purely because of the hot tub
And I find it even more aggravating that it's clear the owner knew of the issue, yet still rented the villa to us as having a hot tub, with no mention that there might be an issue.
In fact, as I booked the villa only about two weeks before departure, there's a high chance it was broken at the time of booking.
If I should proceed with requesting compensation, does anyone have any tips on how to ask for it?
Thanks in advance

Have you spoken to the owner ? Why would you expect compensation ?0

You are probably lucky .... if it had been working you'd have spent 5 days in the re-heated bum debris of assorted previous renters.
Each to his own though I guess...0 -

Mind you, I had a traumatic experience with one in a hotel a few years ago. I never seen so many pubes whirling about in one place.

Thanks for the help everyone...Have you spoken to the owner ? Why would you expect compensation ?
No I haven't spoken to the owner yet; I was hoping for some advice here before I did.
I want compensation because I was sold and paid for something I did not get. In most situations this would mean I was due compensation; is a holiday different?0 -
Yes, I think you are entitled to some compensation, given that the accomodation was not as described. I'd certainly speak to the owner, but it would be hard to quantify your loss, and therefore any figure is likely to be small. Unfortunately if they tell you to sling your hook( fairly likely IMO) your chances of any cost effective action through (I assume) a foreign legal system are very small indeed.
Chances are I would be filing this under "putting it down to experience".0 -

You have to appreciate that many people use these boards as some form of self gratification, to some its a kind of self righteous !!!!!! fest. Ignore them.
Of course you should ask for compensation, you paid for something you didn't get and its that simple.
Sadly, I feel your only option is to get in touch with the owner and hope for the best, failing that you are probably limited to just leaving a review yourself.
The obvious issue I can see is that you accepted the villa knowing there was a fault, had you refused to stay you may have received some compensation on the spot, and at least have better grounds for complaint.0 -
How much did you pay? What did the owners say when you complained?0
