When our PC started playing up a while ago I ran this :

and it resolved the problem - it may be worth a try...

Simple to fix because it's all about dust which is causing the vhip to overheat.

Unplug everything, take the main box outside, open the case up and then hoover it out, pay special attention to the fan and if need be get a screwdriver and scrape all the hard dust off it. Plug everything back in and you should have not only a much quieter system but one which doesn't switch off all the time.

    My thoughts are:
whiskeymincher - no warning or error so likely to be hardware overheating issue

kha - could be a software conflict/driver problem or hardware fault, depends a lot on the specific error you get.

I would also test the memory, use memtest. Instructions are on the website.

I agree with anley1. I had a similar problem when the computer shut down for no apparent reason. After giving the inside a good dusting and clean out, everything is running smoothly and quietly again. There were indeed so much "hardened" dust within the cooling fan and do need scrapping out with a stiff brush.

Thanks too all for advice. I cleaned the pc inside and scraped off dust from the fan unit and hey presto the pc runs extremely quietly. Not sure if it has solved the restart problem however I suspect it has.

Thank you for all the advice, I'll try "hoovering" it first to see if that works:T

if you want to keep your PCs in tip top condition make sure you give them a good clean as above at least every 6 months. And especially before the summer, ie right now because that's when heat can be a real problem.

I'd also suspect that a slower spinning fan uses less leccy :)
