Good/bad? I heard they used to be awful but appear to have improved nowadays. Been with vodafone for years and years but they're just not competitive enough with what I want now so looking to switch.

Good/bad thoughts about t mobile?

Just check the reception. Generally not as good as Voda/O2, in my experience. Lots of friends ditching EE when contracts end.

And if you can't get a decent deal from Voda when your contact ends, then you are not trying hard enough!

You say check the reception but how do i do this until i commit to the contract?!

Oh dear, not what I wanted to hear! £26/month for iphone 4s is what they can offer and voda's best offer is £33 for the same deal. Not great if you ask me.

Check with friends/neighbours, or get a PAYG EE SIM and test it where you need reception.

Well i have one friend on t mobile and he says it's fine. Difficult one really as people say voda is great but in my new flat the signal is pretty poor.

Good idea but have lost my phone so need a new one, ha. Not good.

    See macman's post above.

On the other hand, you could always wait, get the EE deal and if you don't get reception, like many, many threads on here, sit and think for 2 years about the £7 per month you are saving for something you can't use.

You are going to spend over £600 over the next 2 years. At least check out that it isn't going to be wasted.

And DO NOT rely on area cover charts. No substitute for a pilot test run.

There's websites you can use to get a good idea of coverage in an area, here's just one http://ukmobilecoverage.co.uk/

I changed to t mobile over a year ago purely to get the better reception I wanted where I was working, have had no problems at all. I'm just PAYG with a cheap phone though, nothing fancy.

ETA - cross posted with Guys Dad - yes, ask all the neighbours is a better idea. My neighbours all told me that T mobile/orange was the ONLY network that worked reliably in the area, and they were right, was ready to through my o2 phone out the window lol

I'd never rely on those charts as they're no doubt produced by the network provider!

Well I did kind of do a test the other night when my friend was at my flat. In most places he had more signal than me (t mob v voda) so going by that I assume that t mob wins!

Opposite for me! Just ditched Vodafone as could never get a good 3G signal. Now on T-Mobile and getting good 3G both at home & work, which were issues before.

Can't comment on their customer service yet but no problems with connection or setting up online billing etc ...so far a happy customer!

Yes - it works both ways. Some areas, EE beats Voda or O2.

As long as you have done the tests, then that's all you can do. Some handsets do have better reception than others - Guy's old HTC is better than his Samsung SII, but the main thing is to be as careful as possible and you are on the right lines.

    Good luck.
  • The coverage maps are always worth a look - if it's says none or poor it's probably right.
Most phones allow you to change the Network selection from Automatic to Manual and then do a scan for available networks. They generally appear in a list with the strongest first. But then as has been suggested get a free PAYG SIM for the network you want to go to and check the coverage where you need it.
