New broadband when planning to move home

When I took out my current broadband package I went for O2 because they were the only company I could find who would offer me a 30 day cancellation package with no penalty. I wanted the cancellation package due to a potential imminant home move.

I was wrong to do this as the imminant home move still hasn't happened over a year later (and O2 were far from the cheapest at the time) but the move is still likely to happen now in August 2013.

The added complication is that O2 are folding and I don't know if sky will even offer me my existing package.

Can anyone recommend the best course of action:
I'm wondering should I just sit out the sky merger and wait and see what they offer me
Should I try contact them now and see what they offer me
Is there another provider who offer 30 day broadband contracts
Do I even need a 30 day contract - for the situation of genuinely moving house - or are there any genuine let out clauses as there appear to be on some other utility bills.

I know that I will not be able to take the broadband connection with me when I move for reasons I don't really want to discuss in an open forum.

Thanks

02 are not 'folding', they've simply sold on their landline and broadband division. It could be months before the sale goes through the regulator, but when it does you'll be on exactly the same terms for now, as Sky have bought out your existing contract.
Presumably you've already got your one year's free broadband under the current retention deal?
Many broadband providers offer 30 day minimum terms, but you'll also need a 30 day landline contract to go with it.

No I've not had anything free at all. Indeed I actually paid to get onto this contract. I've certainly not had any year free. Either at the start or now. The phone was possibly on a minimum of three months but that has long since expired. But as long as I keep what I've got I'll be happy - I'm not greedy (well perhaps I am - certainly cautious though).

It's not free 'automatically'. If you phone 02 retentions you wil be offered 12 free, whether you are in minimum term or nor. Also possibly a £200 mobile credit. There are several lengthy threads on this topic.

    As above.

Tell them your unhappy about Sky buying the contracts and you want to move, they will then offer you 12 months free broadband.

Thanks for the info but it appears that they charge £50 just to transfer to them so not a good option for me.

You should be on the sames terms you are now (as when Vodafone@Home got bought up last year) but if there are any problems, a number of ISPs offer a monthly contract.

having said that, you can normally move your home and broadband to the new property with you when you move.
Sorry, but the customer is not always right. Often, you're very very wrong.
