A storage combi might also be an option if there really is no room for a full size cylinder. A storage combi has a 50 litre tank of hot water built in to cope with the demand that a 2 bathroom house has and is reheated in very little time so would very rarely run out...if it does the flow rate is reduced until the water is turned off so the small cylinder can recover.

It's enough water to fill a bath and have a 10 minute shower at the same time....waiting not much more than 15 minutes in between each bath and shower.

Unvented cylinder and system boiler if sufficient mains flow & pressure. Install what is appropriate for the property.

    Storage combis are overrated.

We currently have a hot water boiler only and now we are changing the boiler for a combi to provide central heating as well.

Do you have a gas fired water heater i.e. example.
How is your property heated at the moment?

You should expect a boiler to be fitted that has been calculated to do the job, heating and hot water, required according to the size of the property, not oversized or undersized!

Consider your statement, although size of yours is unknown, but say it is 30kw output, and this is a very loose statement, then if you had 30 rads that would be 1kw per rad, which is equivilent to a 1bar electric heater.
I dont think that would be sufficient to heat any room effectively or efficiently ;)

Who made that statement anyway, a salesman

Careful Ted! At this rate poster will suddenly cotton on to the fact that his gas bills could be a lot lower than they are and that will really cause an upset. :D

    Cheers

Thanks for the response. I appreciate what you're saying and understand your reasoning, I possibly remembered the number of radiators incorrectly. The boiler was calculated correctly because of the shower we wanted and so far it had been perfect.

I must say that I'm quite touched you seem so upset about what I've bought but rest assured, it was a 34 kw boiler and no, it wasn't a salesman that told me that info but another plumber. Thanks again.

Sorry to go OT but been trying to get an answer on this and sounds like someone here may be able to help..

Would you think a "Glow Worm Betacom 24" would be 'man enough' for a 3 bed semi with about 7-8 radiators (double ones) and a bathroom with a sparate bath & shower? I don't think it's as good as the old school back boiler they removed but hard to tell by comparing gas bills as it's been so cold!

    Huge thanks

it's not the heating you need to worry about it's the hot water flow rate & nearly all combi's will only supply one outlet at a time, if you are used to roof tanks & a cylinder then a 24kw combi will have you pulling your hair out, a min of 28kw & if you can afford it go for a higher output, but before you go down the combi route you need your flow & pressure testing

oh just read your post again & it sounds like you have already had it fitted ?

if so you may want to go here
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

It was fitted (chosen too) by our insurance co's nominated builders. Not been an easy 18 mths and still on going! Is there anywhere I can get info on what should be a minimum KW for our situation? I need ammo as you are right as when a tap is on it means there isn't enough pressure for a shower...
