Admin fee for cancelling AA breakdown cover?
I took out breakdown cover with the AA on the 19th March to commence on the 11th April. I admit to not reading the T&Cs in their entirety, specifically the section on cancellations.
I decided the cover was too expensive, even with the Amazon voucher and on the 27th March emailed them asking to cancel the policy.
Today I received a reply saying they will cancel, but levy a £20 admin fee.
I've now read the section on cancellations and it states they may charge a fee, not that they will.
Needless to say, I don't want to pay the admin fee if I don't have to. Has anyone successfully argued against it?

If its in the T's and C's that they MAY charge then they have every right to charge you.
Put it down to experience and move on.You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Sorry, I don't give up so easily: It's not very money-saving.0

Money saving would be have been to shop around before buying0

They have some real nasty changes in the policy booklet with may meaning will .
Break down within 28 days of each other and they may decided it is the same fault and leave you stuck.
They diagnose this over the telephone.
No thanks, cancelled immediately, modern cars do suffer similar faults and often within 28 days of each other and I dont want some call centre pleb holding the power over me stuck on the Hard shoulder of the motorway.
My car breaks down, I pay my cover I want a breakdown service.
Not a discussion over what repairs the garage carried out.
I have been a member longer than I can remember, they have killed the pig this time.Be happy...;)0 -
May charge a fee?
You would think that someone as big as the AA could afford decent legal advice.
As the banks have found out to their cost, for this to be legally watertight this condition must state the exact amount of the fee that may be incurred0 -
Well, I bought AA breakdown cover in a breakdown situation just under two weeks ago. (Relatively new insurance as new secondhand car" and had no details on me - stupid me but hey -ho). They told me that if I do cancel within two weeks there may be an admin charge. Fair enough, got car fixed etc got home. Just cancelled and they admin fee - wait for it - is £110. If I didn't buy it in a breakdown situation it would've been £20. So I have cancelled and a complaint so going in as that amount WAS NOT made clear, simply an admin fee. Anybody got any advice on claiming back some if not all of this amount.
Thanks in advance

Is that the admin fee or is that the admin fee plus the cost of attending the breakdown?0 -
As far as they've made me aware it is purely an admin fee. I am getting a small refund which leaves a discrepancy of @£20 or so which would cover the last 2 weeks - fair enough:j I feel I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe :j0

Does that read...you broke down, joined the AA, they came out and fixed the car, and now you want your money back?
If that is correct its understandable they want to charge0
