do i need booking ref to claim first choice

in Flight delay compensation
a party of 3 of us were delayed at gatwick for 7 hours.We were flying to porlamar,venezuala when the aircrafts aircon developed a fault and had to wait for a spare plane. This happened in dec 2007 and we have no booking ref no. Is this going to be a problem claiming?
