Plumber hasn't/won't register my boiler install with gas safe

Hi,
Last September we got a new combi fitted from a local Worcester Bosch accredited installer. We got his details from wb's website. We paid £2300 and when I came to pay him he asked if I could transfer the money online and he's drop the receipt round. I sent him the money that night but never got the receipt, but more worryingly we never received the gas safe paperwork or the seven year wb warranty. I kept chasing him and he said he would look into it. In the end I rang wb and they said they'd not received the warranty notification but took the details from me and registered my warranty. I got back onto him and asked about the gs paperwork, and he said it should have arrived, but six months on its still not here and all I get is "I'll reregister it" or "I'll Chase it up". He's clearly not going to do it so my question is what do I do know?
If I'd wanted a boiler without paperwork I wouldn't have paid over two thousand quid for it!

phone gas safe & tell them about it, they may want you to put in a complaintI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
His Gas safe certificate may have run out and that may be why he has not registered the installOwing on CC £00.00 :j
It's like shooting nerds in a barrel0 -
Why did you pay the full amount before the job was completed?
As above, check online if he is still GSR (a 'plumber' is not an RGI).No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Well not having ever dealt with gas installers before I kind of just assumed he'd sort the paperwork out in good faith. Besides, doesn't it take a few weeks to get the gas safe paperwork? Would you be happy if I withheld payment in that time? He completed the benchmark document so didn't think he'd not complete the gas safe side of it too.
And he was and has since then always appeared on the gas safe site. I assume that means he's registered? His company is heating and plumbing, so for arguments sake he's a plumber to me0 -
We had a bit of a hick up getting ours registered as the installer forgot to pay his renewal. I spoke to Gas Safe and they were very helpful. Thankfully in our case it was a "admin" error on our installers part but I did feel the only sway I had was the monies I held back. I think it is the case that many reasonable plumbers/gas engineering/other trades will quite readily accept you saying "i am withholding £x until I get the paper work". Its quite common. Doesnt help you in this case I know.
Anyway, my advice is give Gas Safe a call. You have waited too long for the paperwork now so you do not have to give him the benefit of the doubt any longer. If he complains at you it doesnt matter. I would expect paper work within 4 - 6 weeks of install so six months is plenty to cover all sorts of issues.0 -

Yeah I think thats my best option now I think. I suspect maybe the payment didn't go through the books hence he's not coming good on the paperwork. No basis for this belief though, just my gut feeling. Quite disappointed really, thought using an "accredited Worcester Bosch installer" was the best option.0 -
I had a new boiler installed in February, my Gas Safe cert came through within two weeks.
I also got a card asking if I wanted to be considered for a GS inspection to check the install over (the RGI did tell me I would).
Maybe when you've got your registration sorted if you also get the opportunity for an inspection, you take it up?
I know nothing is infallible but it might give you a little peace of mind.0 -
Contact local building control and Gas safe. Just had exactly the same issues and Gas Safe were very good, you can email them too. Local building control confirmed they had no record either & told me Gas Safe would be 'throwing the book' at the installer! Make sure you have his Gas Safe reg no.
Our boiler was actually fitted last summer, we moved back into the house in August, finally had the boiler commissioned in Jan and the certificate last week. Each step was a major headache.

What was his reason for not giving paperwork Kate?0 -
Hi there, just came on here to try and get advice on how to complain about a gas service engineer and found out about Gas Safe on here, so just this is just to say thanks. I'll be putting in a report to Gas Safe about this company who left my boiler in an unsafe condition.
Hope you get your problem sorted out OP. It's so hard trying to find a reliable workman when you don't know the area, and so easy to be taken advantage off, what a minefield.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0
