I did wonder if the emissions test would be the same in all garages?? Are you serious about the motorway - if so can you explain please :)

I don't want to scrap the car and would pay the £150 if it was guaranteed to pass the MOT.

If you only do short journeys you can get a build up of carbon/CO2 etc a good run can clear it!:D

I would get a 2nd opinion from another garage

    Right.

    1. Oil & (oil) filter change. Needed.

    then, later

    2. Run it hard for more than 10 miles @ 70+ mph...

    3. immediately before new MOT in friendly MOT garage. Tell them in advance you want the emissions test ASAP and that you're warming up the car with a hot run, they'll completely understand if they are a local concern.

Better to find your friendly garage, pay them to change the oil & oil filter, then take it off for the run before bringing it back for the MOT.

They'll know you are servicing the oil etc, it all helps.

Main problem is finding a friendly garage. I've always felt that the garages I go to are trying to rip me off

    I lost my husband on 1st April 2011, he was 34 :(

SD, my heart felt thoughts go out to you. I see you've gained a lot of comfort from people here in recent days.

A poem that means so much to me, maybe it will to you.

We must not weep at an end

    For there is no end.

We cannot lose what we have gained.

We have met, we have touched each other with smiles.

    Exchanged unknown emotions.

    We have embraced without shame.

We have met for a reason,

    A brief interlude in time,

And so we part, the purpose done.....

Thank you. Frubes are 20p back, I noticed they were setting up the new offers in As and believe these were going in the fridge at £1 each, so 80p.

I agree with you, some are like that.

It's worth asking around amongst friends & people you can trust.

Don't go to the chains but try local garages with good reputations.

Well, I've had the car for a year and have only topped up the oil :o. Wonder why the garage didn't suggest a new oil filter.
Do you think if I took it to another garage (situated along the motorway ;)) that it might pass? With these new computerised MOT's would they be able to see that it had already failed?

Oil and filter change won't do you car any harm but won't have much effect the on the emissions test.....your carb/ fuel mixture adjustments would have a better result:D

Not sure I made the point properly.

You need an oil & oil filter change and this will radically clear up the emissions from your car.

Very important, the rest is minor.
