I don't want to scrap the car and would pay the £150 if it was guaranteed to pass the MOT.
I can't see that the £150 would change too much.
Running it hard down the motorway gets rid of the !!!!!! in the system.
You need to go @ 70+
50 miles is better than 10 miles etc.0 -

Very sorry to hear that.
Now I know what you are going through.
What a terrible time for you.
You must have had to be incredibly strong given that I understand there are children.0 -

Well, I've had the car for a year and have only topped up the oil. Wonder why the garage didn't suggest a new oil filter.
Do you think if I took it to another garage (situated along the motorway) that it might pass? With these new computerised MOT's would they be able to see that it had already failed?

Right.
1. Oil & (oil) filter change. Needed.
then, later
2. Run it hard for more than 10 miles @ 70+ mph...
3. immediately before new MOT in friendly MOT garage. Tell them in advance you want the emissions test ASAP and that you're warming up the car with a hot run, they'll completely understand if they are a local concern.
Better to find your friendly garage, pay them to change the oil & oil filter, then take it off for the run before bringing it back for the MOT.
They'll know you are servicing the oil etc, it all helps.0 -
I reply to the other Q - yes they can see it failed another MOT but that's not a problem0
