Good afternoon all, just back from the hospital (again) and the results of my biopsy are complicated, this is my second transplant kidney 3 years ago, first only limped along for a few weeks, but this one has been giving a good 26% function until I got a e-coli infection last month and gp gave me an inappropriate antibiotic!! so now the damage is done either by the infection or the antibiotic and my renal function is at 13% just so ticked off as I waited 10 years for the call in the first place and one tiny hic-cup and I feel bombed out, sorry to moan will allow myself this one day then it's back to making the best of it.:oWhen The Fun Stops Stop0

Logie, you're an inspiration hun.
I take it 6/6 means you're nearly at the end? (Sorry if I sound dumb, not sure how it all works)
Sorry, I was being lazy typing on my phone
Yeah it means that hopefully this will be the last lot of chemo. So I have today to finish, tomorrow and Friday, next Wednesday and then IVs are done :j
Just have to keep well for the next few weeks then cross everything for the scan which should be at the end of this month♥ Worrying does not empty tomorrow of it's troubles.... it empties today of it's strength ♥0 -
For those with pet insurance, I'm looking to insure Sam, but how does the excess work?
I have done a quote with Morethan, and the basic 'accident only' cover is £8 per month. The excess is £75.
If it was something minor, say a sprained leg or something, would it be worth claiming, or would a vet charge less than £75 to treat it?
I've never had pet insurance before and never made a claim on any other.
Excesses generally range from £50/higher + 10% treatment cost. It's pretty standard across the industry. Vets fees and treatments (injections/pills/creams) are not cheap. A simple X-ray will set you back about £200 !!
I'm currently with MoreThan for my moggy, but fortunately after cashback + free food voucher they've paid me £18 to be with them this year
I found a few examples ;-
General description Animal type Average Price
Annual booster Cat £35
Annual booster Dog £33
Blood test Cat £109
Blood test Dog £128
Castrate Cat £52

Parasite treatment Cat £25

Parasite treatment Rabbit £50
Pedicure Cat £60

The £75 excess is per illness per year plus you also pay the first 10% each time.
So a dog has a cruciate problem when you first go they will pay for the treatment -£75 and 10 of the cost.
if you have to go 2nd 3rd 4th time still down to original cruciate problem it is only the first 10%.
It may sound a lot but roughly working it out we have probably paid £1225 for Baileys operations/treatment etc rather than £10000+
If it is minor and no chance of any ongoing treatment depending on the cost it may be less than £75 therefore not worth it but you don't get much at the vets for £75.
Hope that helps and dont forget cashback we got £50-£75 back for the first year, think it only cost us £100 or so anywayWhen The Fun Stops Stop0 -

just more hassle from some people who are more interested in trying to ease their guilt over how they treated DH but I told them to tell someone who cared because I wasn't going to give them the response that they wanted.
It's been hard for us both, DS has just had a big break down and is cuddled up to me at the moment going through old photos. I don't know what else to do with him, he was fine until this afternoon but I couldn't calm him down earlier so we both just sat and cried, I felt so helpless.
Oh SDit's the hardest thing in the world to see your kids distressed and feeling like you can't make it better for them. Even harder if you feel down yourself.
I think you are doing a great job doing what you've been doing already, being there for him. Some things hurt so much that the only way to deal with them sometimes is to sit down and have a meltdown and a good cry. At least he's not having to do it on his own. It will help you both in the long run that you can share your grief with each other. It's plain to see that you have a very close bond. That's such a precious thing :A0 -
