Parking Eye fine

Hi
I've been reading through previous posts about parking fines from private companies such as parking eye.
I received a penalty notice this morning from them.

Apparently I over stayed by 12 minutes. I have used this car park many times as it was 1hr max stay. They have apparently changed it to 30mins (unsure as to when this changed but I did have a look and they do have new signs stating this- which I hadn't noticed until today!)

My fine is for £75 but reduced to £45 if paid within 14 days.

I get really worried about things like this. Do I pay, appeal or ignore??? Any advice would be appreciated thank you.

It's not a fine, just a mere invoice

    Just ignore it.

If it's for a retailer, might be worth asking the council to see if they have any parking restrictions in place when they made the application. If the council said they must offer (say) upto 90 minutes for the local businesses as a condition of getting the application and the store (or PPC) has taken it upon themselves to reduce that amount without seeking permission from the council, they could be in breach of planning permission.
  • It was for a retailer. I probably use this car park 4-6 times a month so have no idea when they changed it, i think it has been for 1hr for the last 8 years. I'll most likely get another couple through the post.
Think I'm gonna pretend that I never received it.

If its a retailer who has changed things say you are sorry but cannot shop there as everyone is getting invoices for browsing his shop.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

    Never mind protecting the retailer.

Name and shame - as long as you are sure it's not a multi retailer area. If, for example, it's a small supermarket, the 30 minutes is commercial suicide, I would suggest.

    So, go, name and shame.

Why would you not at least complain to the retailer or on-site manager? How is this scam acceptable and why would a customer/visitor want to ignore this harassment, like it's your fault when it isn't? It's because people allow this 'impersonation of a parking ticket' scam to go unchallenged (and because plenty of idiots actually just pay) that these firms are the pariah they currently are in this Country.

Also Parking Eye have recently been known to pick on one or two ignorers and try a rubbish small claim against them. Isn't it simply easier to challenge the fake PCN and use POPLA to win it, to get rid of the scumbags at their expense? Why put your head in the sand?

You even have threads on here and on pepipoo talking about POPLA winning appeals and suggesting challenge wording you could simply copy & paste and send off to the scumbags in minutes.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • It was for Farmfoods. I'm gonna go into the store this week and see what response I get from them.

If I write and appeal I'm sure they will just reject it. I will have a look on pepipoo to see what letter I can write to them.

So farmfood think 30 minutes is long enough to find a parking space, get a trolley, fill a trolley with enough to stock your freezer, queue at the checkout, load it all in to the car and take the trolley back.
Is this the new Olympic sport ? Extreme shopping against the stopwatch.

Sooner or later successful companies have a "Ratner moment"
This particular branch of farmfoods has had a brainwave.
Get in to bed with a scam fake parking ticket firm that screws customers over to make sure they shop at your competitors in future.
    Classic, absolute classic.
    Be happy...;)

Go in, fill a trolley up with lots of frozen foods, say out loud in ear-shot of an employee, "Oh dearly me, I have nearly run out of time, I better move my car or else get a charge for staying more than allowed" and walk out of the store.
  • Went in to farmfoods today and apparently loads of people have been in to complain. Apparently the new signs where only put up a couple of weeks ago. The guy in there just told me not to pay it.
farmfoods don't own the parking area (although it states that the car park is for customers of farm foods) it owned by someone else who has got parking eye in.
I'm gonna send a letter to PE not 100% sure on what to say. I'm going to have a look at pepipoo to see what others have written and draft something up.

In the meantime has anyone else got any advice on what to write?

    Nothing.

If you don't respond, you will most likely fall off their radar. If you do, they'll mark you as potentially being bothered enough to pay up, unlike the thousands of us who just ignore them.

I know you're angry and want to say something to them, but they don't care, won't be swayed by anything you've got to say and will pester you even more if you stick your head up above the parapet.
