Without sounding alcoholic...
Is there a board on here for sub £5 wine recommendations? E.g. Aldi's toro loco, a fantastic bargain.
Was in Calais and made a point of buying nothing over 5€ and they've all be great so far, though it's not hard to spend £7+ on not a lot in the uk. There are some good things out there!

Any supermarket now sells wine sub £5. Usually under the guise of being 'half price' lol.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

We like Wollemi Cabernet Shiraz and Wollemi Chardonnay from Sainsbury's. It's £5.99 a bottle but frequently on the 3 for £12 offer. That's when we stock up! It's a perfectly acceptable wine for £4 a bottle. (But, there again, my DH says I will drink anything lol!!)"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

We get the occasional good bargain at B&M, these have included wolfbass (a different cultivar from the usual) Kumala, KWV (a big SA co-op) and yesterday we found some Goats do Roam which is made by a well known SA winery. All for £3.99 a bottle.I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

I bought a claret at £3.89 which was very good. Bottled by one of the Calvet family who, decades ago, were a great Bordeaux negociant.
Not so impressed with the Grapevine Merlot but, at l£2.99, I shall try others in that range. No great loss if they are a disappointment.
I used to regularly buy some reds from Asda. The La Chasse Reserve Cotes du Rhone jumped from £5 to £7.XX. Similarly, the Castile Real Tempranillo which was in their 3 for £10 (£3.33 in Scotland) offer is now over £5 a bottle!0 -
We make all our own now! But when we were buying we used to go to Morrisons and Lidl for the best offers.0

Can somebody please recommend a really good Merlot - want to give a bottle to a neighbour for doing a job for me in the garden. I know nothing at all about red wine, but I've been told he likes Merlot so I'd like to buy him a decent one.
Thank you.0 -

When I used to buy I quite liked Isla Negra0
